2015 Surrey Cricket Foundation Oscas

2015 Surrey Cricket Foundation Oscas

David Hawes14 Aug 2015 - 11:00

Egham CC well represented in nominations

The 2015 Surrey Cricket Foundation Oscas was held to honour the volunteers that do so much for recreational cricket in Surrey.

This season there were Four nominations from Egham Cricket Club

Paul Suckling - Lifetime Achiever

Janet Pursey - Getting the Game On

Bob Amon - Heartbeat of the Club

Debbie Beesley - David Edwards Award for Officiating

All had been nominated due to their outstanding commitment to Egham Cricket Club for a number of years

Paul Suckling
Mark Kaltner says - I joined Egham CC in 1984 and was introduced to a young committee member called Paul Suckling. 31 years later he is still on the committee and over the years has taken on a number of roles within the club, including Bar Chairman Pavilion Chairman First team Captain, vice captain and for a long time Ground Chairman.
In his spare time he coaches the colts section and still plays when time permits. In itself this is quite remarkable but when you take into account that for the last 20 years he has lived more than 20 miles from the ground and his job regularly takes him to the far flung corners of the world then you begin to see that his commitment is quite amazing.
Paul’s efforts with the ground have not gone unnoticed as since the Surrey Championship umpires began grading wickets and grounds the Egham wicket has consistently received high marks and been rated as one of the best in the league which is testament to Paul’s efforts.
His tireless enthusiasm for the club commitment and attention to detail is an inspiration to all.

Janet Pursey
Cricket teas come in various guises. Players quite often judge an opposition not on their ability but on the standard of the teas. On that front Egham should be hosting first class games as the teas provided by Janet are absolutely outstanding.
Janet ,together with her family , have been doing teas at Egham for a number of years and has followed and improved on a long tradition of high quality teas.
It is quite common for the opposition to thank the person doing the teas in person but Janet’s accolades include a mention by one opposition in their local newspaper report, a section in the Surrey Championship handbook from a club, as well as most recently a string of tweets.
Egham players are known to opt for a home game whenever possible to benefit from one of Janet’s teas and without a doubt she adds great value to the club.

Bob Amon
Bob has been associated with Egham for a number of years and is currently the Chairman of the club having previously been a very successful Secretary.
Bob is very hands on and spends a large portion of the week at the club ensuring the maintenance of the club is kept up to standard. There is no task he will not turn his hand to and is as likely to be found half way up a ladder or behind the bar.
He has generated much needed sponsorship and revenue through his tireless efforts in the local community and over the last few years has been instrumental in achieving grants which have enabled a changing room extension, two new all weather nets, a new garage, two new sightscreens and is currently looking at ways to fund a new roof.
He is a regular home and away at First team fixtures and has a fantastic relationship with all club members. An ardent supporter of colts’ cricket he is keen to encourage their involvement in senior cricket.
Bob is the all-round person that clubs would not survive without.

Debbie Beesley
Debbie was introduced to cricket by her College tutor who persuaded her to come to Egham and learn to score.
She quickly became interested in the game and has been fully involved with the club ever since, missing very few matches. She has always scored for the 1st XI and is now in her 13th year.
Debbie is fully committed to her team and rarely misses a selection meetings and is adept at filling last minute drop outs, informing players of meeting times etc. each week, not always as easy as today with email.
She is very good at mentoring young colts as they are moved up to the first team.
In addition she has taken on extra roles at the club such as Team Secretary and Club Secretary over the years.
Well respected by scorers from across the League, and also takes time off work to score for League and County games, with 2 Surrey games coming up in August this year. Her scorebook is a work of art, extremely neat and tidy.
Whoever is First XI Captain at Egham is very lucky, she manages their paperwork, tends to the sick and occasional hangover, deals with the highs and lows , and generally looks after the team.
All in all Debbie is a truly dedicated Scorer and Club Member, that also enjoys a little tipple at the end of a game!

Each season the club will be looking for nominations to be put forward for those volunteers that make this great club a success on and off the pitch.

Here is a summary of the category winners:
