Highlights from Saturdays Surrey Championship fixtures as only the second XI can record the win.

The 1st XI welcomed Hampton Hill to Vicarage Road and decided to have a bowl having won the toss. An early wicket was not really built on as Newton-Savage put on 86 for the visitors, who finished 217 all out. Captain, Ryan Dennis, the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-30.
Eghams reply never got going and soon found ourselves 17-5, having been on the receiving end of a very good opening spell of bowling from Metcalfe, who accounted for 5 of the top 6 and ended with figures of 5-22.
Despite the best efforts of Dan Telford and several of the lower order, it was just too much of an ask following the poor start, Egham eventually being bowled out for 135.

The 2nd XI made the journey to Chessington, looking to build on a strong start to the season. Losing the toss and being put into bat, the top order quickly moved the score to 115 at drinks after 17 overs. Hoping kick on from a strong start, the innings stalled a little with the regular fall of wickets, eventually finishing 209 all out from 41 overs. Dix top scoring with 41.
Chessington came out with intent and also made a quick start but could not stop the wickets tumbling once the openers were dismissed. Spinners Ramasamy and Staight again bowling well and taking wickets, Staight in particular with a tight spell and figures of 4-22 from 9 overs. Chessington finished 157 all out, a 52 run victory for the second XI who have won three of the opening four games. Scorecard

The 3rd XI visited Old Hamptonians and having won the toss, decided to bat. Finding runs hard to come by on a testing surface, we made slow progress. Brijesh (33) and captain Hamilton scoring a patient 56 took us to 147-9 from the 45 overs.
The Old Hamptonian innings and having removed the openers cheaply, there was early hope of being able to defend our total. However, despite taking further wickets, the home side were able to keep the score ticking, eventually reaching the target in the 39th over, for the loss of 7 wickets. Scorecard

At Royal Holloway the 4th XI welcomed the visit of Walton on Thames. Winning the toss and deciding to have a bowl, we made early inroads with Walton 18-3. From that point Walton began to build the innings and 88 from G. Bradley saw Walton end their 40 overs 215-5. Vikki and Ben Sweetland with 2 wickets apiece.
In response we were unable to build partnerships and despite the best efforts of Hodgkinson (37), Skipper Ramesh (40) and Extras (42), we fell 71 runs short, all out for 144. Scorecard
